Mare Nostrum NGO, trough the fund financing made by GLOBAL GREENGRANTS and PAN Germany, launched, for the first time in the organization’s experience, a project on the risks that the pesticides present on the human health and on the environment.
The project was called “Raising of the public awareness on the usage of pesticides and on the impact on human health an on the environment” and it was implemented from June to November 2009. Among the main objectives of the project there were included the evaluation of existing trends in marketing, usage and the impact of the pesticides in Romania, especially in the Constanta county. To achieve the main objectives of the project, Mare Nostrum contacted the responsible for authorizing and monitoring the usage of pesticides institutions and the farmers as well, it inquired on pesticides related data and promoted the improvement of transparency among the public.
On this site, people can find essential information on the Romanian and European legislation on pesticides, pesticide residues, pesticide’s environmental and human impact, lists of pesticides, alternatives to pesticides and so on. This website aims to inform and increase the public awareness in pesticides and inform it about the progress of the project.
Throughout the project implementation period, Mare Nostrum has collaborated with PAN Europe.
Pesticide Action Network (PAN) includes over 600 non-governmental organizations, institutions and individuals from over 90 countries, which work in the pesticide area, trying to replace the hazardous pesticides with healthy culture methods, both environmentally and socially. PAN was founded in 1982 and has five independent regional centers, which collaborates in developing its projects and campaigns.
